Wildwood Canyon State Park

Quiet state park in the foothills with hiking and panoramic valley views

Wildwood Canyon State Park sits in the foothills at the eastern edge of Yucaipa, a 850-acre slice of chaparral and oak savannah climbing up from the valley floor. The park is undeveloped by California standards — no visitor centre, no paved trails, just a small parking lot and a handful of fire roads that double as hiking routes.

The main trail climbs a few hundred metres up Wildwood Canyon to a viewpoint over the San Bernardino Valley, with the San Gorgonio Mountains rising sharply to the north. It is best in spring when the chaparral flowers and the air is still cool; summer afternoons are hot and exposed. Bring water, watch for rattlesnakes in the warmer months, and check that the access road is open — wildfires have closed the park more than once in recent years.
