Long Beach has its own airport, Long Beach Airport (LGB), which is small and pleasant to use compared to LAX. It is served by Southwest, American, and Delta, with direct flights from a range of western US cities. The airport is about 10 kilometres northeast of downtown.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is also accessible, about 30 kilometres away, with better international connections. From LAX, the FlyAway bus connects to Downtown Long Beach.
The Metro A Line (formerly the Blue Line) connects downtown Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles and Union Station with regular service throughout the day. The journey takes about 45–50 minutes and costs around $1.75. Several stations serve different parts of Long Beach.
By car from downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach is about 35–45 kilometres via the 110 or 710 freeway — a journey that can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes depending on traffic. Parking in downtown Long Beach is much cheaper and less stressful than in central LA.
