Getting Around

Menlo Park is a spread-out American suburb and a car makes things significantly easier for covering the full range of sites. However, the area around the downtown — Kepler's Books, Cafe Barrone, the Allied Arts Guild, and the Caltrain station — is compact enough to walk. The city has a flat topography that makes cycling easy.

The Caltrain station sits at the centre of the walkable downtown zone. From here, the Allied Arts Guild is about a 15-minute walk south, and SRI International is about a 10-minute walk east. The Meta campus is too far to walk from downtown (about 2.5 miles) but manageable by bicycle.

Bike share is available through Bay Wheels, the regional Bay Area Bikeshare system. Lyft and Uber operate throughout the city. VTA bus routes serve the main corridors but connections can be slow compared to driving.

For visits to Sand Hill Road, the Stanford Shopping Center, or El Palo Alto at the Palo Alto border, a car or rideshare is more practical.
