Arcata has a compact but lively bar and café scene, driven in large part by the university. The Plaza and the few blocks around it concentrate most of the action. Café Mokka is the essential coffee stop, with the added peculiarity of a Finnish sauna out back. Humboldt Brews handles most of the live music. The North Coast Co-op has a good café counter inside, useful for an early breakfast.
