Lost Coast Brewery on 4th Street is one of the older craft breweries in California, founded in 1990 by Barbara Groom and Wendy Pound — two women who opened a brewery at a time when that was genuinely unusual. The Downtown Brown and Great White are their mainstay beers; both are served fresh at the taproom attached to the production facility.
The pub is a straightforward, no-nonsense place: decent food, good beer, and a local crowd that hasn't entirely changed since the early years. The brewery distributes widely across the western states, but the taproom version of the beer is noticeably fresher. Located at 617 4th Street; 707/445-4480.
