Getting There

Sonoma town is 45 miles north of San Francisco, a drive of about 75 minutes in normal traffic via Highway 101 and then Highway 37 east (or Highway 121 north from Napa). On summer weekends, traffic on both approaches can add 30–45 minutes. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Oakland International (OAK) are the main arrival points.

There is no direct public transit from San Francisco to Sonoma town, though SMART rail connects Santa Rosa to Larkspur (with a ferry connection to San Francisco), and local buses run from Santa Rosa to Sonoma. Most visitors drive. From Napa, the Carneros Highway (Highway 12/121) connects the two wine regions in about 30 minutes and passes through some of the best vineyard scenery in either county.
