California Scenario, often called the Noguchi Garden, is a public sculpture garden by Isamu Noguchi tucked between office towers near South Coast Plaza. Completed in the early 1980s, it turns California into a walkable abstraction: water, desert, forest, land use, and stone arranged with Noguchi's precise sense of balance.
It is small, free, and easy to miss, which makes it one of Costa Mesa's better cultural surprises. Come when the light is low and the granite forms cast shadows across the plaza. The setting is corporate Orange County, but the garden itself has a calm, almost ceremonial quality.
