Laguna Niguel Regional Park surrounds the 44-acre Laguna Niguel Lake, an artificial reservoir that serves as the main outdoor recreational focus of the city. The lake is stocked for fishing — largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill — and fishing permits are available at the park entry. Pedal boats and kayaks are available for rental, and the lakeside paths are popular with walkers and joggers.
The park has picnic areas, playgrounds, and a disc golf course spread across the hills above the lake. The setting is pleasant rather than spectacular: suburban Southern California hills with scrub oak and sage, views toward the ocean on clear days. The park is typically crowded on weekends and much quieter on weekday mornings. The lake makes an easy half-day stop for families, especially combined with a picnic from nearby restaurants.
