The Lido Theater opened in 1938 on the small Lido Marina Village section of the Newport Boulevard, designed in a Spanish Colonial Revival style with a striking tiled facade and a tall neon-lit marquee. It is one of the few independent cinemas left on the Orange County coast.
The single screen still runs a mix of arthouse and mainstream releases — small enough to feel like a community institution, recently restored enough to be comfortable. The surrounding Lido Marina Village has been reworked into a low-key luxury shopping and dining district with waterfront restaurants and a yacht-club feel.
