Casa Romantica

Ole Hanson's blufftop Spanish Colonial Revival home, now a cultural centre and garden.

Casa Romantica is San Clemente's most graceful historic building, a white-walled Spanish Colonial Revival house above the ocean. Its gardens, tilework, and terraces make the city's founding fantasy visible in a way that a street walk alone does not.

Today it operates as a cultural centre, so check for exhibitions, concerts, and closures before visiting. Even a short stop is worthwhile for the views over the tracks, pier, and Pacific.

A story
Casa Romantica was built for Ole Hanson, the developer who shaped San Clemente around a Spanish Colonial Revival ideal. The house still explains why the city looks so deliberately different from much of coastal Orange County.
