The First Mayor's House, also known as the I. J. Harvey House, preserves a piece of early Salinas civic history. It was home to the city's first mayor and is most interesting for travellers who want to look beyond Steinbeck and into the town's 19th-century roots.
Visits are usually by appointment, so check ahead rather than treating it as a casual drop-in stop.
