Marina Green

Flat waterfront lawn with sweeping views of the bay and the Golden Gate

Address Marina Blvd

Marina Green is the long, flat ribbon of waterfront lawn that gives the Marina District its name and its outdoor life. Built on land reclaimed for the 1915 world's fair, it runs along the bay with uninterrupted views across the water to Alcatraz, Angel Island, the Marin headlands, and the Golden Gate Bridge — and it is where the neighbourhood comes to jog, picnic, fly kites, and walk the seawall.

It is one of the best places in the city to feel the wind off the bay and watch the sailing boats and windsurfers. At the western end, a path leads out along a jetty to the Wave Organ, a quirky acoustic sculpture that plays the sound of the tides through stone pipes. Pair it with the Palace of Fine Arts a few blocks inland for a classic Marina afternoon.
