San Francisco packs an extraordinary amount into seven square miles. You can walk across the Golden Gate Bridge in the morning, explore Alcatraz in the afternoon, and catch live music in the Mission after dinner. Many of the city's best experiences are free -- strolling through Golden Gate Park, climbing Telegraph Hill's hidden stairways, or simply riding a vintage streetcar down Market Street.
The city rewards curiosity. Wander beyond the obvious attractions and you will find a musical instrument played by the ocean, concrete slides hidden in a residential hillside, an antique penny arcade full of mechanical curiosities, and a Victorian columbarium that is one of the most beautiful rooms in the city. San Francisco has always been a place where the weird and the wonderful coexist.
