This is not a theme park attraction. The Walt Disney Family Museum is an intimate, thoughtfully curated museum in the Presidio that traces Walt Disney's life from his Midwest childhood to the creation of Disneyland, told through letters, early drawings, home movies, and interactive exhibits. A 12-foot model of Disneyland as Walt envisioned it is the centrepiece.
The lobby displays 248 of Disney's awards, including the special Snow White Oscar -- one full-sized statuette accompanied by seven miniatures. Founded by Disney's daughter Diane and run independently of the Disney corporation, the museum has a personal, family-album quality that Disney World never could. The Presidio setting, in a row of converted barracks with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, is perfect.
