The Wave Organ is an acoustic sculpture built into a stone jetty at the end of the Marina yacht harbour. Twenty-five organ pipes of varying lengths are set into the rocks at the waterline, and as waves wash in and out, the pipes produce low, gurgling, otherworldly sounds -- somewhere between breathing and singing.
The effect is subtle and depends on the tide (high tide is best), so do not come expecting a concert. Come expecting to sit on a beautiful stone jetty with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Angel Island, listening to the ocean make music. The jetty itself is built partly from rubble salvaged from a demolished cemetery, and you can spot carved granite and marble among the stones.
