China Camp State Park

A bayside state park preserving tidal marsh, oak woodland, and a historic Chinese shrimp-fishing village.

China Camp State Park protects a varied stretch of San Pablo Bay shoreline east of San Rafael, with marsh, oak woodland, ridgeline trails, and a small historic village. The park's name comes from the Chinese shrimp-fishing community that operated here in the nineteenth century.

It is one of the best outdoor stops in the San Rafael area because it combines hiking, cycling, bay views, and a specific immigrant-history story. Come for a short walk around the village area or plan a longer loop on the park's trails.
