San Rafael's position in Marin County puts it at the gateway to some of the Bay Area's finest outdoor spaces. The Frank Lloyd Wright civic center is the architectural centrepiece in town, but most visitors come here as a base for Muir Woods, Mount Tamalpais, Point Reyes, and the Marin Headlands.
