Getting There

Susanville is a road town. The main approach from the south and east is US-395, which connects directly to Reno, Nevada in about 90 minutes. From the west, US-36 comes over the mountains from Red Bluff and Interstate 5 — a scenic but slow drive through Plumas County that takes around two and a half hours. From the Sacramento Valley, drivers typically take Highway 44 east from Redding through Lassen Volcanic National Park, which adds a worthwhile stop to the journey.

There are no commercial flights to Susanville. The nearest commercial airports are Reno-Tahoe International (the most practical option for visitors from outside California) and Sacramento International, which is about three hours away. Greyhound formerly served the region but no longer runs a reliable schedule to Susanville; verify current service before counting on it.
