Bars and Cafes

St. Helena's bar and cafe scene is small — this is not a late-night town — but the quality is high. The Main Street wine tasting rooms double as afternoon drinking spots, and several of the better restaurants have bar seats open for walk-ins when the dining room is booked solid.

For coffee, Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company on Main Street is the town's main cafe, opening early and filling with locals before the visitors arrive. For wine by the glass in a low-key setting, the tasting room at Charter Oak operates as a neighbourhood wine bar in the evenings. The bar at Press on St. Helena Highway is the closest thing to a classic steakhouse bar in the valley, with a staggering Napa wine list and well-made cocktails.
