The most pleasant way to reach Vallejo from San Francisco is by ferry. The Vallejo Ferry runs from the San Francisco Ferry Building to the Vallejo Transit Center, a journey of about 65 minutes on the water. This is the recommended approach for day visitors — the ferry avoids Bay Bridge traffic and arrives at the waterfront near downtown.
By car, Vallejo is about 35 minutes from San Francisco across the Bay Bridge and north on I-80. Parking is available downtown and near Mare Island. From Sacramento, Vallejo is about 70 minutes west on I-80.
The Vallejo Transit Center serves regional bus connections and is the ferry terminal. BART does not reach Vallejo; the closest BART station is El Cerrito del Norte, from which buses connect.
