Bistro Jeanty has been Yountville's classic French bistro since Philippe Jeanty opened it in 1998 after leaving Domaine Chandon's kitchen. The menu is unapologetically traditional — coq au vin, steak tartare, escargots, and the famous tomato bisque served en croute with a puff-pastry lid you crack open at the table.
It is the place locals send you when you want the Yountville experience without the booking battle for the French Laundry. The room is warm, the wine list is properly Burgundian, and the prices, while not cheap, are reasonable for the village.
