The Inez Johnson Lewis School is the most substantial historic building in Monument. Completed in 1922 in a restrained Classical Revival style, it served as the town's school for decades and is now the administration building for the Lewis-Palmer School District. The two-story brick facade with its prominent entrance and stone trim is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The building is not a museum and not generally open to visitors, but the exterior is worth a look if you are wandering through downtown — it sits one block east of Second Street and gives a sense of what Monument looked like before the Front Range corridor filled in around it.
