Danbury's diverse population has made it one of the more interesting places to eat in western Connecticut. Brazilian and Ecuadorian communities are particularly well represented, and the city has a good selection of Latin American restaurants alongside the standard New England fare. Scott Road and the surrounding streets have a concentration of Brazilian restaurants and bakeries. Downtown has been adding new options as the city gentrifies slowly.
For Brazilian food, look for a churrascaria — the all-you-can-eat rodizio style that Danbury's Brazilian community brought from home; Brasilis BBQ on Main Street is a good place to start. Ecuadorian restaurants tend toward hearty soups and rice dishes. For classic Americana, Elmer's Diner on Padanaram Road serves all-day breakfast in a proper stainless-steel diner. The food courts in the Danbury Fair Mall are unremarkable, but the smaller independent places in the city center reward exploration.
