Danbury Railway Museum

Restored Union Station housing one of New England's best collections of historic locomotives

The Danbury Railway Museum occupies the city's former Union Station, a handsome 1903 building that has been meticulously restored to its Edwardian glory. The museum holds an impressive outdoor collection of historic diesel and steam locomotives, passenger cars, and freight equipment that visitors can climb aboard and explore. On weekends, train rides run on the adjacent tracks.

The station building itself is worth seeing — the high ceilings, tile floors, and period detail were saved when other similar stations were demolished. The museum does a good job of connecting the railway's history to Danbury's industrial past: it was the rail lines that allowed the hat factories to ship their output across the country. Good for families and railway enthusiasts alike.
