New London has a good range of restaurants for a small city, concentrated in the downtown and on Bank Street near the waterfront. Seafood is the obvious choice this close to Long Island Sound.
Recovery Room on Huntington Street is a reliable downtown spot for burgers, sandwiches, and pub food with a friendly neighbourhood feel. Captain Scott's Lobster Dock on Hamilton Street is the classic New London seafood shack — lobster rolls, clam chowder, and fried seafood plates in a no-frills setting right on the water. For something more substantial, Muddy Waters Cafe on Bank Street serves good coffee, sandwiches, and light meals. Frank Pepe's Pizzeria has a New London location — the white clam pizza is a Connecticut tradition worth trying if you haven't had it.
