Getting Around

On foot is the best way to see the central city. The Yale campus, the Green, and most of the museums are within a 15-minute walk of each other. Wooster Square is about 20 minutes east of campus on foot.

By bus, the Connecticut Transit bus network covers most of the city. Frequency is reasonable on the main routes but schedules can be unreliable. The bus is most useful for reaching Lighthouse Point Park or the further-flung neighbourhoods.

By taxi and ride-share, Uber and Lyft operate across the city and are the practical choice for reaching West Rock Ridge or Lighthouse Point after dark or in bad weather.

By bike, New Haven has bike lanes on several downtown streets and a bikeshare programme (Citi Bike) operates in the central areas. The terrain is flat in the downtown core, hillier toward West Rock.

There is no metro or light rail.
