Lewes Presbyterian Church

The Lewes Presbyterian Church on Kings Highway dates the congregation to 1692, though the present brick building is from 1832. The cemetery around the church is older than the building and worth a walk: weathered stones for Dutch and English settlers, sea captains, a few veterans of the Revolution, and the unmarked plots of enslaved people who lived in the town. Some of the lettering is illegible, but the layout — narrow paths between leaning marble — is striking on a quiet morning.

The interior is plain and well-kept and the church remains active. Services are Sunday mornings; the cemetery is always open.
