Silver Lake is a freshwater lake on the south side of Rehoboth Beach, separated from the Atlantic by a narrow strip of land. The lake is a haven for migratory birds, and the paths around its perimeter are popular for walking and wildlife watching — a pleasant alternative to the beach when the boardwalk is crowded.
The lake is notable for its waterfowl, particularly during the spring and fall migration seasons when it attracts species that don't otherwise appear on the Delaware coast. A pair of mute swans have nested here for years and have become a fixture of the local landscape.
Silver Lake connects via a narrow channel to Lake Comegys to the west, and from there to the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal. The combined waterway provides kayaking and paddling access for those with their own equipment. Rental is available in season from outfitters near the boardwalk.
