Florida Botanical Gardens

The Florida Botanical Gardens spread across 182 acres within Pinewood Cultural Park at the south end of Largo. The grounds include themed gardens — a tropical fruit garden, a rose garden, butterfly gardens, and sections dedicated to native Florida plants — connected by paved paths suitable for walking or cycling. Admission is free every day of the year, which makes this one of the best-value stops in Pinellas County.

The gardens are at their most colorful in late winter and spring, when the camellia and azalea collections bloom and the migratory birds move through. The wetland sections attract wading birds year-round. There is a small visitor centre near the entrance with maps and plant information.

A story
The gardens are free to enter every day of the year, which is almost unheard of for a botanical collection this size. The 182 acres were part of a county park system dating to the 1970s, and the plant collections have been growing quietly ever since — meaning you can walk among mature specimens of tropical palms and native Florida wildflowers without paying a cent or fighting tour groups.
