Largo

Residential Gulf Coast city in Pinellas County, minutes from Clearwater Beach and barrier-island shores.

Largo is a city in Pinellas County on Florida's Gulf Coast, situated on the peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It is primarily a residential community rather than a tourist destination, but it sits just minutes from Clearwater Beach and the string of barrier island beaches that make this part of Florida so popular.

At the south end of the city, Pinewood Cultural Park holds two of the best free attractions in Pinellas County: the Florida Botanical Gardens, 182 acres of themed gardens open every day of the year, and Heritage Village, an outdoor museum of relocated historic buildings spanning a century of local settlement. Both are genuinely worth a few hours.

Largo Central Park in the city centre hosts the Largo Cultural Center and an amphitheatre used for outdoor concerts. Eagle Lake Park in the north of the city is one of the better birding spots on the Pinellas peninsula. The Pinellas Trail — a 38-mile paved cycling and walking path — passes through the city, making it easy to reach the beaches of Clearwater to the north or St. Petersburg to the south without a car.

Getting Around

Largo is a car-dependent city. Most attractions are spread across a wide grid of residential streets that make walking between them impractical. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) runs buses throughout the county, including routes to St. Petersburg and Clearwater, but service is infrequent outside peak hours.

The Pinellas Trail, a 38-mile paved multi-use path running the length of the county, passes through Largo and connects the city to Clearwater to the north and St. Petersburg to the south. It is a good option for cycling between the main parks and the botanical gardens.
