Blackwater River State Park is the main reason to use Milton as a base. The river looks dark from tannins but runs clear over a pale sand bottom, with wide white sandbars that make natural beaches along the bends.
Come for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming, and short walks through longleaf pine forest. The park is easy to visit for a half day, but the river rewards anyone willing to slow down and float.
