The Marina Jack complex on Sarasota's bayfront is the best place to get oriented. The public park stretches along the waterfront with open views across Sarasota Bay to the keys. Pelicans work the marina docks, and at sunset the view back toward downtown — water, palms, the city skyline — is exactly what Florida is supposed to look like.
The adjacent restaurant has a rooftop bar with the same view, and sunset dinners are a reliable local ritual. Boat tours and fishing charters depart from the marina docks if you want to get out on the water. The waterfront walking path connects north to Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall and Payne Park.
