Nathan Benderson Park is Sarasota's big flat-water recreation space, built around a long rowing lake just off I-75. It hosts regattas and outdoor events, but on ordinary days it is a clean, open place for walking, cycling, paddling, or watching training boats move across the water.
It is not the romantic Sarasota of beaches and banyans, yet it is practical and pleasant if you are staying inland or want exercise without sand. Go early or late in hot weather, when the lake light is better and the paved loop is less punishing.
