The nearest major airport is Tampa International Airport, about 25 minutes from downtown St. Petersburg by car. St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport (PIE), just to the north, handles some domestic carriers and charter flights at lower fares. Neither airport has direct rail connections to St. Petersburg.
By car, I-275 crosses the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and runs directly into downtown. From Tampa, you can also take the Howard Frankland Bridge (I-275 north of downtown Tampa) or the Gandy Bridge for a slightly faster crossing. Traffic on the bridges thickens considerably during rush hour.
Greyhound and FlixBus serve St. Petersburg with connections to Tampa and points beyond. Amtrak does not serve St. Petersburg directly — the nearest station is Tampa, with Silver Star and Silver Meteor services.
