Georgia Museum of Art

The Georgia Museum of Art on the UGA South Campus is the official state art museum of Georgia and one of the better regional art museums in the American South. Admission is free, which makes it an easy stop whether or not you are particularly interested in art.

The permanent collection runs to around 18,000 works, with particular strength in American paintings, prints, and decorative arts. There are notable holdings of Italian Renaissance paintings and a collection of works by Georgia artists. The museum rotates its temporary exhibitions regularly — check the website to see what's on during your visit. The building itself is pleasant, with good natural light in the galleries.
