Lillian G. Carter Nursing Center

The building, originally the Wise Sanitarium hospital, is where Jimmy Carter was born in 1924 — the first US president born in a hospital. It later became a nursing home, and in 1995 was renamed in honour of his mother, Lillian Gordy Carter, a registered nurse who ran the maternity ward where her son arrived.

The building is still in use as a nursing facility and not generally open to visitors, but a state historical marker outside notes the birth and Lillian Carter's career. Worth a quick stop on a walk through town.
