When to Go

Boise has four distinct seasons. Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are the best times to visit — mild temperatures, clear skies, and the foothills either green from winter rains or golden before the cold. Summer (June–August) is hot and dry, with temperatures regularly reaching 37°C and occasional wildfire smoke from surrounding forests, but evenings are pleasant and the outdoor events calendar is full. Winter brings snow to the city about a dozen times a year, cold nights, and good skiing at Bogus Basin from late November through March.

Boise First Thursday, held on the first Thursday of each month, opens downtown galleries late and fills the streets with outdoor art and food. The Treefort Music Festival in late March draws indie acts from across the country. The Western Idaho Fair runs in late August.
