Pocatello is spread out enough that a car helps, especially for Ross Park, the university, and trailheads. Old Town is walkable once you have parked, and most central sights are a short drive from each other.
Local buses exist, but they are more useful for residents than for a short visit. If you are using Pocatello as a road-trip stop, plan around your own wheels.
