About a mile northwest of Tetonia lies what is left of Haden, a Mormon farming settlement founded in the 1890s and gradually abandoned through the twentieth century as families consolidated into the larger towns of the valley. There is not much to see — a collapsed barn or two, the foundations of a schoolhouse, scattered fence posts — but the setting, with the Tetons rising behind the ruins, has a melancholy beauty.
This is not a curated site with signs or paths; it is simply private and public land where a community used to be. Respect fences and posted property. The drive out is on dirt roads that turn to gumbo when wet, so go in dry weather.
