Springfield is three hours from Chicago by Amtrak (Illinois Zephyr or Carl Sandburg) and about two hours by car on I-55. Several trains run daily in each direction; the station is conveniently located near the downtown core. From St. Louis the drive is about an hour and a half. Springfield Capital Airport has limited commercial flights, mainly via Chicago O'Hare connections. Most visitors coming from outside the Midwest drive or take the train from Chicago.
