Most of the better eating in Ames is either on Main Street downtown or in Campustown immediately south of campus. Hickory Park (the local barbecue institution since 1970) is mandatory if you eat meat. The Cafe on Lincoln Way is a fine-dining standout that draws on local Iowa producers. For something cheap and pleasingly studenty, Stomping Grounds in Campustown does decent sandwiches and coffee, and Mongolian Buffet on Welch is a long-running campus favourite.
