Downtown Cedar Falls is centred on Main Street, a restored commercial strip of brick buildings, independent shops, bars, cafes, and civic events. It is small, walkable, and more lived-in than decorative, which makes it the natural place to start or end a visit.
The district is especially pleasant in warm weather, when patios are open and the river trails are close enough to fold into the same walk. It will not compete with a big-city downtown, but for an Iowa college town it has real texture.
