A twenty-five-foot limestone tower built in 1926 as a memorial to Caleb and Ruth Clark, among Madison County's first white settlers. It stands on a wooded ridge inside Winterset City Park, reached by a narrow road that climbs through oak hickory forest.
From the top — a few flights of stone steps inside — the view runs out over the wooded valley of the Middle River, taking in the rolling farmland that defines this corner of Iowa. Sunset is the time to come.
