Grace Episcopal Cathedral

Grace Episcopal Cathedral occupies a prominent position in central Topeka, a few blocks from the State Capitol. The building's Gothic stonework is among the most architecturally distinguished in the city — a notable contrast to the municipal brick and glass that surrounds it. The nave is open to visitors during the day.

The cathedral's grounds include a memorial garden and small park that offer a quiet retreat from the surrounding commercial streets. Music is central to the cathedral's programme — the choir and organ are both strong, and weekend services are worth attending if you're interested in high-church Anglican liturgy. The cathedral also hosts occasional concerts and public events.

A story
Grace Episcopal Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, which covers eastern Kansas. The current Gothic Revival building was consecrated in 1928 and contains notable stained-glass windows and stone tracery work. The cathedral is the seat of one of the oldest Episcopal dioceses in Kansas and has been at the centre of some of the denomination's debates over inclusion in recent decades.
