Topeka's sights cluster around two themes: the civil rights history that put this city on the map, and the ordinary civic institutions — capitol, zoo, museum — that make it worth a half-day stop rather than a drive-through. None of these are world-class attractions, but the Brown v. Board site is genuinely moving, and the Capitol murals are surprisingly powerful.
