Red River

The Red River cuts the Bossier–Shreveport area cleanly in half: Shreveport to the west bank, Bossier to the east, and everything that matters in Bossier City is built within walking distance of the river. The water itself is genuinely red — laden with iron-rich clay sediment from upstream Texas and Oklahoma — and slow-moving where the lock and dam systems hold it back.

The riverside levee from the Boardwalk south past the casinos makes for a flat, exposed walk or jog with constant river views. Riverbeach below the Hampton Inn is the closest thing to a beach in either city, and there are occasional boat tours, fishing tournaments, and Fourth of July fireworks staged on the water.
