Eating Out

Morgan City is deep in Cajun country, and the food is the real draw. Gulf shrimp, blue crab, crawfish, and Atchafalaya River catfish all appear on local menus. Look for shrimp etouffée (a rich buttered shellfish stew over rice), boudin (a Cajun rice-and-pork sausage), and fried catfish in serious portions.

The town is small and the dining scene is modest, but the ingredients are as fresh as they come — the shrimp boats work out of the same river the restaurants are beside. Portions are generous and prices are low by any standard.
