New Iberia is 30 km south of Lafayette on US-90 and 200 km west of New Orleans. The most practical way to arrive is by car — Cajun country is not served by meaningful public transport, and a car is essential for reaching Avery Island and exploring the wider Acadiana region.
The nearest airport is Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT), about 35 minutes north, with connections to Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta. New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is 3 hours east and has better flight options for international travellers. The Amtrak Sunset Limited stops at New Iberia station on the New Orleans–Los Angeles route, but service is only three times a week and schedules are frequently delayed.
