Blaine House has served as the official residence of Maine's governor since 1919. The Federal-style mansion was built in 1833 and later expanded. It is named for James G. Blaine, a powerful 19th-century Republican congressman and presidential candidate who owned the house and substantially renovated it. Tours of the public rooms are offered on weekday mornings; the interior features period furniture and portraits of Maine's governors.
