Things to Do

Augusta's main attractions cluster around the State Street corridor and the Kennebec River waterfront — close enough together that you can cover them on foot in a morning. Fort Western and the Maine State Museum are the strongest draws; the Capitol and Blaine House add context if you're interested in the political history of the state. The Rail Trail, which follows the river south toward Hallowell and Gardiner, is good for a bike ride or a long walk.
